Ready to explore

Visit the many historical sites, museums and castles, such as Caerlaverock, to the worlds first saving bank at Ruthwell Savings Museum, to the famous venues from the renowned poet Robert Burns (various).

Wildlife watching along the Solway Firth at the nearby National Nature Reserve and the Wetlands Centre or looking for Golden Eagles near Moffat. Or on your doorstep of Criffel Cottage (recorded 10 species of mammals, and over 70 species of birds)

Criffel Cottage is an excellent base for cycling, with it being located on the NCN 7 cycle route (625 miles long) and the cottage is also well positioned to access some of the 7 Stanes (thrilling mountain biking trail centres in South West Scotland.)

You can go walking direct from Criffel Cottage to coast or to the nearby woodlands and villages. Further there is the Annandale Way, Criffel Hill, Grey Mares Tail near Moffat, or the many coastal / forest areas that Dumfries and Galloway has to offer.

Children can be entertained at Criffel Cottage with the exclusive use of the fields right on your doorstep or take them to Dalscone Farm or Mabie Farm Park or Bainloch deer park.

Day trips to Edinburgh or Glasgow (1 hour by train from Lockerbie) or the Lake District (1 hours drive) are all possible (you can actually see the Lake district on a clear day from the grounds of Criffel Cottage)

Include a shopping trip to the local towns of Dumfries, Annan, or Carlisle as well as the designer outlet at Gretna.
